Well nurses, let’s just say the past few months have been a little hectic to say the least. So much uncertainty regarding patient volumes and the level of care required throughout our hospitals. This has added undue stress to what’s an already complex and at times, extremely high pressure job. However, the community has been so supportive of our efforts and have really acknowledged the level of work we’ve put in. For a job where we’re not able to negotiate our own salary or receive bonus incentives no matter how grand our performance, people's generosity has given me the “warm and fuzzies” when it comes to how others have viewed the volume of work we put.
Now some businesses have also been kind enough to reward us nurses with free gifts and benefits. Some of you may not be aware of what’s on offer, so we decided to put together an article on the perks of being a nurse in Melbourne for 2020. Get in fast, as some of these offers have limited quantities or expiry dates, but we hope you find yourself a great deal. Enjoy!

3. Discounted hire car fees
Thrifty is helping out healthcare workers during this unusual time by offering free access to rental vehicles for Victorian healthcare workers. The only thing you’ll be responsible for is the costs relating to fuel, tolls and fines. With everyone overdue for a mini holiday or weekend away, why not take advantage of this great offer. The offer expires 15 July, 2020. I know, how cool.. See your next rental car here.

4. Waved Tolls Roads
Do you use toll roads to get to work? Linkt is giving eligible customers with up to three months toll credit. There is a specific criteria that you must meet, which you can read about here. For those eligible, this is a nifty little deal worth getting your hands on and saving yourself some cost.
5. Free Roadside Assist
You may have seen this advertised on TV, but as most of us have been working to the bone, we wanted to make sure you saw it here! AAMI is offering free roadside assistance to healthcare workers until December 2020. Never be stranded on the side of the road again with this great offer. Find out how to apply here.
6. Free coffee!

7. Cheap Burgers!
This offer hits home for me! Ribs & Burgers have absolutely amazing food, especially for someone who likes the typical American Southern cuisine. They have generously offered all healthcare workers 50% off the total bill across all locations during the Coronavirus crisis. This offer runs until 30 June 2020, so if you’ve not been out to a restaurant for a little while and are craving mouth watering spare ribs, this offer is for you. Check it out here.
8. Free accommodation
We don’t wish this upon anyone, however, there is a risk that our front line workers may contract the Coronavirus throughout this period. As such, Healthcare workers in Victoria who test positive for COVID-19 or need to self-isolate for 14 days will get access to free accommodation in hotels or apartments. The press release on the Australian Midwifery and Nursing Journal can be found here for more details.
Well nurses, we hope you’ve found something that takes your fancy in our list. I personally felt a little awkward taking advantage of these deals for just “doing my job”, though I’ve never seen these offers presented before and you never know if they’ll be afforded to you again. So as a way of saying thanks for the work we do, just enjoy the spoils this time around.
Cheers,
Emma
